Tracking Visitors to Your Website

Tracking your site visitors can be fun and interesting. Your host servers typically provide all the information you can possibly handle with regard to site visitors.

If not I recommend getting a free account with Quantcast.com or use Google Analytics. Using any of these tools can help you with the following:

1. What percentage of my visitors become customers?
2. What percentage of my sales are new or renewals?
3. What is my average revenue per visitor?
4. What is my average revenue per sale?

Use an excel spreadsheet to spread out and visualize your statistics. For example, enter the statistics for your affiliate program in a spread sheet that details the number of click throughs you receive for a product each month, detail the number of sales you made and also the amount of sales. Of course you need to also subtract your expenses.

Make sure your programs are increasing in sales each month and that they are not costing you more to promote them than what you are making on them.

Also, pay close attention to your web page statistics. Your web host should provide a log that details the statistics of each of your web sites pages. Another reason why selecting a good web host is so important.

My web host not only tells me the number of visitors my site has, it also tells me how long each visitor stays on my site before leaving. This is invaluable in aiding with site design. If 90% of your visitors click off in the first 30 seconds this can mean a number of things from targeting the wrong audience to bad site design. In any event, it can help give you clues about what changes may need to be made.

You web host statistics can provide you a wealth of good information such as daily visitors, most visited pages, keywords used to find your site, the search engines delivering you the most traffic and more.
