Making The Sale Without Being A
Salesman
I sell
products online every day but....
I'm NOT a salesman, no way,
no how. But I've realized in all my years of online
sales that the difference between a good salesman and
someone who can't sell a thing is to make your prospective
buyer feel he isn't being sold to.
If you think about it, we are
confronted on a daily basis with sales media, hype and
commercials, so no one wants to arrive at your website to
see another "hypey" sales pitch flashed in front of
them.
Honestly, I hate being sold do
and I'm sure you feel the same way about the steady push of
sales products you see on websites and in your
email. It's no
wonder we've become conditioned to ignore hype and pushy
sales tactics.
But, you're in business
right? You do
have products to promote. So, how do you effectively
do that?
Avoid the hype and the sales
pitch, instead approach your visitors with advice,
recommendations and product endorsements rather
than trying to 'sell' them.
Always confront your visitors
with a friendly, sincere, honest attitude. Show them that you
understand their frustrations by relating to them your story
and how you were able to overcome the problems you've had or
perhaps how you've used a particular product or service you
are promoting.
But most importantly be
honest. No
product or service is perfect so a 100% raving review will
often be met with resistance and skepticism. If a product is good, say
so, but if there are shortcomings or minor flaws, it won't
hurt to mention them ...and your viewers will appreciate
your honesty.
I like to compare and contrast
products helping my visitors make up their own minds by
clearly seeing the differences. This compare and contrast
method is a very strong selling approach.
The point is, don't be a
salesman, talk to your visitors as you would talk to a close
friend about a product you bought. Your viewers will find you
more interesting, they'll appreciate the advice and you’ll
find they listen to you more often because your honesty
reflects your interest in THEM.
...and that's how you'll make
the sale without being a salesman

Ken says "There are actually two
ways to build a Web Site online. The first way is all about
"keeping it real." Add to the Web. Write, and write well,
about what you know and love. Overdeliver great content to
please visitors and make the Search Engines love you at the
same time."
What he says
is 100% correct. Furthermore,
preselling is about "writing to
communicate" and you'll achieve that skill with
this book.
